I have been very athletic all my life - a soccer player, a runner, and a snowboarder. Yet, after trying several attempts to get in shape for firefighting, I knew something was missing from my workout routine. I needed to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Seeing as though firefighting is highly physically demanding, I realized I needed and wanted to make a change, and fast. I looked to CrossFit Milwaukee with Ryan Atkins which now became my new found way of strength and conditioning.
The training I was doing with CrossFit was very different than anything I had ever experienced before. I learned very early on that if I wanted to really make a difference that this wasn’t going to be just about a nutritional diet or have forced workout routines, but a lifestyle change. I learned fitness can be fun and exciting. The results came quickly for me.
Training with CrossFit was the best decision I have ever made. I remember my first day of CrossFit - I thought I was going to die after 10 minutes. I said to myself, these warm-ups at CrossFit are most people’s “entire” workout. I was nervous just thinking that there was more to come after the warm-up. But that is when I knew that CrossFit was what I needed for conditioning my body. This was the best thing for me and my firefighting. My energy level has increased tremendously and I successfully passed the CPAT test for firefighting. I feel the best that I have ever felt in my life because CrossFit works!

I just want to say thanks to Ryan and his staff of instructors for all they have done for me through CrossFit. When I started in October, I was in decrepit shape due to years of laziness and a broken leg that derailed my only other from of excercise, cycling. I saw a freind who recently started your program and he loked great! After 3 months of training with Ryan and his staff. I am proud to say that I feel great! Gone is the winded feeling after going up 2 flights of stairs and in its place I have lots more energy and a new outlook on fitness! I look forward to the coming months of training and the improvements to my physique!

I started CrossFit in November. In the first class I realized not only was I not up to scratch in a cardiovascular sense, but my muscular strength was also not where it should be. After just one or two weeks I began to see results and was beginning to complete the sessions at the prescribed level. At the end of November I had not been running for over a month since the end of the football season. To my amazement, when running in California over the Thanksgiving weekend I found that I had cut over 5 minutes off my 4.5 mile run. Simply by working out at CrossFit, without hitting the pavement once, and in less than 1 month. I was a believer. Since then I have continued to make rapid strength and fitness gains. I now attend classes 4 times per week, complete sessions doing all unassisted pull ups and dips, and compete for times and scores with my fellow CrossFit'ers . All feats that would have been impossible just two months ago. The environment is fantastic. It's essentially personal training for the cost of a group class and its free on Tuesdays for the Bombers. Get down there for your pre-season. There is a lot to gain in just two or three months of CrossFit!

“If a 46 year old mom of five can do it, so can you”
I’m a mom of five; five c-sections in 8 1/2 years and told I would never be able to do a sit up again…This is what I told Ryan when I first started CrossFit, after he informed us we were to do “umpteen” sit-ups. He looked at me and smiled, threw down an ab mat, told me to do a few (not “try”) and then walked away. I thought, “I’m paying the man. He must know what he’s doing.” I did maybe 3 sit-ups. Six months later I was doing 150 sit-ups in 6 minutes…I started pull ups with a band, and again, six months later I was doing them unassisted…Rope climb? What mom would willingly climb a rope? I’m up and down that thing like a monkey. I could go on and on…
Bottom line is I am in better shape now at 46 than I have ever been in my life and I’ve been working out for 28 years. And it only took 6 months at CrossFit.

“Ryan is a fantastic trainer with an incredible amount of knowlege and the patience to work with people of all fitness levels. He showed me why everything I thought I knew about the fitness industry was fundamentally flawed and showed me through science and results that there was a better way, the Crossfit way.”

“I started training at Crossfit Milwaukee in March of 2009 and thought it would be a good way to supplement my workout routine. I figured after playing college football and six years in the Marine Corps, there was not too much that Ryan could teach me. Boy, was I wrong! Within months I dropped my membership at my traditional gym and started training solely at Crossfit. Ever since I have watched my physical fitness continue to get better and better. As a small business hour I have very little time and exercise is generally my last priority. However, with Ryan's flexibility and Crossfit's quick but effective workouts, I am always able to fit in time to work out. Thank you Ryan!”
